Cinzia Zehnder is a former professional footballer and current assistant doctor in general surgery in the Kantonsspital Winterthur (KSW). During her football career, she played as a midfielder for top clubs, including FC Bayern Munich. She also represented the Swiss national team, earning 30 caps and competing in major international tournaments, including the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada and the 2017 UEFA Women’s European Championship in the Netherlands.
Balancing her professional football career with medical studies at the University of Zürich was a challenging yet defining experience, demonstrating her exceptional time management and dedication. Since March 2023, she has been serving as an assistant doctor in general surgery.
She is actively involved in the Sports Doctors Network, focusing on improving medical healthcare in women’s soccer, providing insights into the current state of the sport, and promoting ongoing medical research to address the unique health needs of female footballers. Additionally, she is a member of the Medical Board of the Swiss Association for Football Players (SAFP), where she works to enhance medical support structures for footballers in Switzerland.
